In the Foundation Phase, learners receive a rich introduction to their additional language. They will understand many words and structures, though they will not have been taught to them directly. They should have developed confidence, enjoyment and some fluency in communicating in their additional language.
Aims
- To teach learners to speak fluent and correct English.
- To write clear and concise English.
- To think clearly and methodically.
- The emphasis is an acquiring and developing communicative skills.
Focus
- Take more notice of words and grammatical structures they are already familiar with from the Foundation Phase.
- Explore the way their additional language works and take some conscious control of it.
- Use this developing knowledge to check their use of language, especially when writing.
Gradual learning
Remember: Language is acquired slowly and gradually. Even though conscious attention may be given to vocabulary and grammar, accurate use of word and structures will take a long time. It is not necessary that learners perfect one structure before moving on to the next. They will still make many mistakes, and this is a natural part of learning an additional language. However, increasingly, they will develop their understanding of how their additional language works and gradually move closer to accurate use.
In the Foundation Phase, learners should have become confident readers in their home and additional languages. They should have been exposed to a wide range of children's texts. In Grades 4 to 7 they will use this foundation to become more confident writers.

WISKUNDE
Alhoewel ons by Laerskool Bosveld Primary reeds by Gr. R begin om alle motoriesevaardighede vir lees, skryf en reken vas te lê – vra wiskunde, van leerders om ‘n ekstra myl te loop vir sukses!
Omdat Wiskunde, net soos lees, gekoppel word aan emosionele stabiliteit, ondervind ons dat die werksdruk van skool, sport, kultuur en dikwels huise somtyds ‘n probleem is. Dit is vir ons dus belangrik om in die wiskundeklas elke oomblik voluit te benut en om sodoende elke leerder met kennis en vertroue, met huiswerk uit te stuur – aanvulling deur die Ouer/Voog tuis, is dringend noodsaaklik!
Spanwerk met Wiskunde is dus ons Suksesresep!
Omdat ons baie leerders het wat puik presteer in Wiskunde wil ons hierdie jaar aan die CONQUESTA OLIMPIADE deelneem, wat gedurende Augustus geskryf gaan word.
Die inskrywingsvorm sal aan die leerders gegee word en voorbereiding sal in die klas begin.

MATHEMATICS
At Laerskool Bosveld Primary learners get an early start (Grade R) to establish motor skills for reading, writing and calculations. Nevertheless, Mathematics demands from the learners to walk an extra mile to achieve success.
Mathematics, similarly to reading, is linked to the emotional stability of a child. Due to this, we find that the pressure to thrive in school, sport, culture and sometimes the home environment, can lead to over-exertion. It is therefore important for us to use every moment in the Maths class to equip the learner with the necessary knowledge and confidence to accomplish success when completing their homework. Support in this matter from the parent/guardian is very important to achieve the learner’s goals.
Teamwork in Mathematics is consequently our recipe to success!
We have a number of learners who excel in Mathematics. Due to their achievements we would like to participate in the CONQUESTA OLYMPIAD, during August 2010.
Entry forms will be handed out to the learners and preparation will start in the classroom.

Natuurwetenskap/Natural Science
Die Natuurwetenskappe leerarea bevorder die ontwikkeling van wetenskaplike geletterdheid,
sowel as die gebruik en die toepassing van prosesvaardighede en wetenskaplike kennis,
terwyl die verband tussen wetenskap, die samelewing en die omgewing erken word.
By Laerskool Bosveld Primary word Natuurwetenskap as vak in die intermediêre Fase
(Graad vier tot sewe) aangebied vir alle leerders. Naas tale (25%) en wiskunde (18%)Â
word 13% van die totale formele onderrig tyd aan natuurwetenskappe toegeken.
Natuurwetenskappe maak ‘n groot deel van ons menswees, die samelewing en omgewing
uit. Ouerbetrokkenheid by die natuurwetenskappe vorm ‘n integrale deel van u kind se vorming en kennis op die gebied.
Assesseringstake word elke kwartaal aan leerders gegee waar hulle bv. projekte, navorsing, aktiwiteite, ondersoeke, breinkaarte ens. voltooi soos wat voorgeskryf is in die leerplan. Hierdie take tel 50% van die leerder se totale punt op die rapport, die einde van die kwartaal. Leerders word vroegtydig ingelig van datum van inhandiging.
Leerders se kennis soos wat dit oorgedra word in die klas word deurgans gemonitor in die klassituasie. – deur opdragte en aktiwiteite te voltooi in hulle werkboeke.
Die eerste en die derde kwartale skryf die leerders toetse soos wat aangedui word op die kwartaal program. Die tweede en die vierde kwartaal skryf die leerders eksamen.
Leerders ontvang twee weke voor die beplande datums hulle afbakening vir hulle toetse en eksamens.
Oueraande word spesifiek gereel om probleme met ouers te bespreek of andersom.
Die natuurwetenskappe onderwysers Me B Kruger (Graad 6,7) en Me J Ras (Graad 4,5) nooi u vriendelik uit om enige onduidelikhede of probleme vroegtydig met ons te kom bespreek.

What is Arts and Culture about?
Arts and Culture is a learning area that offers so many exciting opportunities for educators as well as learners. Arts and Culture is divided as follows:Â
• Music can influence any uncomfortable situation into something positive and can liven up any dull day into a lively one. No party can by successful without music.
• Everyone is not artistic and during the year those learners with less self confidence gets the opportunity to perform various art projects to built their confidence.
• The drama part gives everybody the opportunity to develop his or her talents and help building their self esteem.
• Learners get the opportunity to develop their bodies and at the same time get fit through the dancing part.

Ekonomiese en Bestuurswetenskap/Economic Management Sciences
DEFINISIE
Die Ekonomiese Bestuurswetenskappe bestudeer verhoudings tussen mense, asook tussen mense en die omgewing. Hierdie verhoudings verskil oor tyd en plek heen. Dit word ook deur die maatskaplike, politieke, ekonomiese en omgewingskonteks en deur mense se waardes, houding en oortuigings beïnvloed.
Die Ekonomiese Bestuurswetenskappe is gemoeid met sowel wat leerders leer, asook hoe hulle leer en kennis verwerf. Leerders word aangemoedig om vrae te stel oor die samelewing en omgewing waarin hulle lewe en om antwoorde vir die vrae te vind.
Hierdie leerarea dra by tot die ontwikkeling van ingeligte, kritiese en verantwoordelike burgers wat in staat is om opbouend aan ‘n kulturele, diverse en veranderende samelewing deel te neem. Dit rus dus leerders toe om tot die ontwikkeling van ‘n regverdige en demokratiese samelewing by te dra.

DEFINITION
The Economical and Management Sciences studies the relation between people, as well as people and the environment. This relation differs over a period of time and place. It is influenced by social, economical, political and environmental content and people’s values.
The economical and management sciences are involved with what learners learnt, as well as how they obtain this knowledge. Learners are encouraged to ask questions about the society and environment in which they live and also get answers on these questions.
This learning area contributes towards the development of informative, critical and responsible citizens, capable to built and participate in a culturally diverse society that is continuously changing. This prepares the learners to contribute to the development of a righteous and democratic community.
The focus of EMS will be on:
a) Basic economic literacy and empowerment
b) The effect of management of resources in communities
c) The rights and responsibilities of households, business and government as role-players in the economy
d) The relationship between different environments (social, political, natural and economic)

Tegnologie/Technology
Tegnologie bestaan reeds eeue lank. Die mens het deur die geskiedenis hulle kennis, vaardighede en beskikbare hulpbronne gebruik om in hulle alledaagse behoeftes en begeertes te voorsien (bv kleipotte; die waterwiel).
Vandag het mense steeds behoeftes en begeertes. Die kennis, vaardighede en hulpbronne wat gebruik word om oplossings te vind vir die snel ontwikkelende tegnologiese wêreld waarin ons lewe, verskil egter hemelsbreed.van ons voorgangers. Vandag se samelewing is kompleks.      Â
Ekonomiese en omgewingsfaktore en `n wye verskeidenheid van houdings en waardes moet in ag geneem word by die ontwikkeling van oplossings. Die ontwikkeling van produkte en sisteme in ons moderne tyd moet sensitiwiteit hê vir hierdie verskillende faktore.
Tegnologie soos deur Laerskool Bosveld Primary aangebied is dan die gebruik van kennis, vaardighede en hulpbronne om te voorsien in die mens se behoeftes en begeertes deur die ontwikkeling van praktiese oplossings vir probleme, met in ag neming van sosiale en omgewingsfaktore. Die Tegnologie Leerarea dra by daartoe dat die leerders tegnologies geletterd raak deur hulle geleentheid te gee om:
 Spesifieke vaardighede te ontwikkel om tegnologiese probleme op te los en toe te pas.
 Begrippe en kennis wat in Tegnologie gebruik word te verstaan en dit te gebruik op verantwoordelike en doelgerigte wyse.

Technology has existed throughout history. People use the combination of knowledge, skills and available resources to develop solutions that meet their daily needs and wants (e.g. making clay cooking pots; moving water and a wheel).
Today people still have needs and wants. However, the knowledge, skills and resources used to find solutions are of a different kind because of accelerating developments in technology. Today’s society is complicated and diverse. Economic and environmental factors and a wide range of attitudes and values need to be taken into account when developing technological solutions. The development of products and systems in modern times must show sensitivity to these issues.
Technology as taught at Laerskool Bosveld Primary is the use of knowledge, skills and resources to meet people’s needs and wants by developing practical solutions to problems, taking social and environmental factors in consideration. The Technology Learning Area will contribute towards learners’ technological literacy by giving them opportunities to:
 Develop and apply specific skills to solve technological problems;
 Understand the concepts and knowledge used in Technology, and use them responsibly and purposefully; and
 Appreciate the interaction between people’s values and attitudes, technology, society and the environment.
At the heart of the Technology Learning Area is the identification of everyday problems, needs or wants of people, and the selection and application of appropriate resources, knowledge, skills and values to develop practical solutions. The learners interact with each other and their communities. They become more and more aware of their responsibilities within their classrooms, schools, families and society. The Technology Learning Area contributes to the intellectual and practical development of learners, to enable them to cope with the challenges of a technological society. The learners learn to generate creative and innovative ideas, and to co-operate in translating their ideas into action.

Formele assesseringsopdragte en toetse:
In grade 4-6 is daar ses formele assesseringsopdragte wat gedurende die jaar voltooi moet word, waarvan twee toetse en twee eksamens deel uitmaak. Elke kwartaal se punte word slegs bereken uit die
take wat vir die betrokke kwartaal geskeduleer is. By graad 4 en 5 tel die take 60% van die kwartaalpunt en die toets tel die ander 40%. By graad 6 en 7 tel die take 50% van die kwartaalpunt en die toets tel die ander 50%.
Toetsafbakenings sal minstens twee weke voor die toetsdatum aan die leerders deurgegee word. Ouers moet seker maak dat hulle gereeld hul kinders se boeke monitor en teken by elke opdrag wat deur die onderwyser gemerk is. Ouers moet ook die skrifte dophou vir enige vorm van kommunikasie deur die die onderwyser deurgegee, sodat geen misverstande kan plaasvind nie.
U moet daarop let dat alles in ons skool se aanbieding van hierdie leerarea streng volgens die beleid van die Limpopo Departement van Onderwys is. Ons leerkragte beloof om binne hierdie raamwerk aan u kind die bes moontlike vormende waarde en kennisuitbreiding te bied.

Formal assessment tasks and tests:
In grades 4-6 is there are six formal assessment tasks to be completed during the year, of which two tests and two exams form part. Every term’s marks are calculated from the assessment tasks that are schduled for that spesific term. In grade 4-5 the tasks count 60% and the test or exam counts the other 40%. In grade 6-7 the tasks count 50% and the test or exam counts the other 50%.
Test deliminations will be given to the learners at least two weeks before the scheduled test. Parents must monitor their children’s books on a regular basis to sign at the results of every marked assessment task and also to keep themselves informed with important information like test details that will be communicated through the exercise books of the learners.

Waaroor gaan Lewensoriëntering?
Lewensoriënteriing is al die afgelope paar dekades in een of ander vorm deel van die kurrikulum en is sedert 2008 verpligtend vir alle leerders tot in Graad 12. In vandag se gejaagde lewe moet skole, opvoeders en ouers hande vat en hierdie leerarea ontwikkel tot ‘n veilige tuiste vir elke leerder om geborge te ontwikkel tot ‘n goed aangepasde landsburger en volwassene.
What is Life Orientation all about?
For the past few decades, Life Orientation, in some or other forms, has been part of the curriculum. Teaching experts realized over the years that education that merely consisted of the transfer of knowledge was an impoverished process without the presence of a subject. With life having become as pressurized as it is, schools, teachers and parents have to make a joint effort in developing this learning area into a have where each learner can safely develop and grow into a well-adjusted citizen and adult.
